and since this is not a naturally tenable position for a whale

WHO: riku and tetsuo did this. you just happened to be there for it.
WHERE: a fountain square in nonah (to start)
WHEN: today, friday may 12
WHAT: Riku floods Nonah. After this.
WARNINGS: none yet but who knows with this bunch

1: the year of the flood
[It starts on what is otherwise a perfectly regular Friday afternoon. If you're close enough to it, you'll hear an odd sound before you see the sudden tower of water descending from the odd black wormhole suspended in the air. You don't have to be too close to hear the torrent, though, nor to recognize the scent of the ocean. For those lucky enough to not be on the street and above the ground when the water appears, for a little while it seems like it might never end. It does end, just as abrupt as it started, but by the time the black, ominous-looking portal above it finally manages to force itself shut, the damage is already done. It's not clear how much water is there, not outside of 'possibly a lake's worth', but no matter how much is there, the fact is that someone just flooded the fountain square on this side of town. At least, that was the center of the flood. Now it's more like someone flooded this entire side of town...]

2: the ocean at the end of the lane
[As the water level lowers and the flood stretches away from the fountain, things start to be revealed. Just the usual you could expect with seawater, at first: lots of trash; sea creatures floundering their way off the hoods of half-submerged cars; flip-flops with no mates, aluminum cans, and plastic bags all gathering in the entrances of shops. Jellyfish. Seaweed by the ton.

But then there are other things. First to make itself known is something that appears to be a jellyfish wearing an inflatable pink-and-purple hat. Its tentacles extend further than any jellyfish's tentacles have a right to extend -- at least twenty feet, but probably more than that. They're strung in between some streetlights, the hapless creature just barely contacting the water. If you're stupid enough to touch it, expect pain on an exceptional level.

Then, as the water ebbs, there’s something else. It’s lying next to the fountain looking as if it regrets all its life choices. It’s also incredibly large, at least compared to a human. It might be about fifty feet long, with a wide, flat mouth and small eyes on the sides of its massive head. It's a whale -- which is promptly going to need to be moved. For now it's just lying there looking sort of sad. Luckily for it, it's still nice and wet, and the slightly overcast, humid day helps -- maybe it'll rain? Either way, it's going to need an enormous amount of help getting back into the ocean. Perhaps you can lend your assistance?]

3: worst. person. ever.
[After the initial shock wears off, in the end, there's still a city beneath all this mess. Nonah, covered in seaweed, trash and jellies as it is, will need to be cleaned back up, and unfortunately, if you want it to stop smelling like seawater sometime in the coming weeks, there isn't much choice but to help. There's a ton of damage -- even if you don't want to help with the whale and the other displaced animals, whether it's sopping up water inside buildings, picking up seaweed or making sure no one was actually hurt by this (many were disgruntled), there's lots to be done. Better start that cleanup soon, before it starts to absolutely reek.]

[ She fusses with her threads until a portal opens in the air between them, as if Space has suddenly sunken into itself for a four foot square, into some containment of water. ]

Just different words for the same thing, from what I can tell. Given the way our population tended more heavily towards certain castes, it's likely the majority of my world's population was psychic, you know. I'm more of an exception that way.

[ But then, she was always a bit rare like that. If her caste were more common, it probably would have ruined the whole mystique vampirism had when she was a girl. But then, she might also have been raised knowing how to deal with it when it manifested. ]

Things had actually been going rather well until someone dropped an ocean on my office! I'll have to survey our warehouse some time tonight to see if our reserve stock is still salvageable.

But it's the weekend before my birthday, I really should have expected something to go wrong. [ At least it's not werewolf murders again. She'll be very cross if someone turns out to have died in all of this. ]

Happy early birthday, I guess. Maybe someone was trying to surprise you with a pool party and things went wrong.

[It's a bad joke, but that's what Jacob does (aside from rescuing fish, currently). And if Kanaya doesn't want to talk about the dream bullshit, that's just fine with Jacob. He's okay with pretending that all of it just never happened.]

I can come with you to the warehouse, if you could use an extra set of hands. Your business shouldn't have to suffer because of this... Whatever it is.

[ Hey, it might have happened, but it's not like it really happened, so it's not like it ever mattered! Not to Kanaya, at least. She's used to awful things happening in dreams, and it's no one's fault but the people psychically manipulating those dreams. ]

I'd be hesitant to impose. Not that the help wouldn't be appreciated, but focusing on where this has personally affected me seems a bit selfish when there's, you know.

[ She turns around to the rest of the city, spreading her arms wide. ] All of this. Nonah was supposed to be safe from this sort of thing. Neutral ground, as it were, where imPorts know better than to make these messes. I suppose it was only ever luck.

Luck, and maybe something else. I'm pretty sure there aren't that many imPorts living up here. Not compared to Heropa or Maurtia Falls, at least.

[Which is a depressing thought. As though Jacob and his friends and allies are a kind of poison in a community, or an explosive material just waiting to go off. Jacob looks down at his soaked boots, watching some seaweed floating by.]

You wouldn't be imposing. You deserve help as much as anyone else who got hit by this. Especially with how much you're doing to help with the recovery.

[Moving that fish would have been a hell of a lot harder without her powers, that's for sure.]
